Mitigating a Family Home with History
This ranch home tested at 11.5 pCi/L, and while the structure holds decades of family history, it also presents unique challenges. The original porch was enclosed to create a finished living space, but the crawlspace beneath remains inaccessible—making radon level warranties difficult.
The basement is mostly finished, except for a small HVAC room. The homeowner’s grandfather added the basement in the 1970s and later installed interior drain tile, though the sump pump is located outside. With uncertainty about where the tile runs, our team plans to extract near the plumbing stack and tie into the system if accessible.
Routing will go through the rim joist, with the homeowner assisting by relocating the water softener basin ahead of time.
