Health-First Radon Mitigation: Protecting a Lung Cancer Survivor’s Home

When detector readings came back around 5 pCi/L, homeowner Keith who recently underwent surgery for lung cancer knew it was time to take action. Radon exposure symptoms can be especially dangerous for those with a health history, and he wanted peace of mind for his family. Our crew installed a custom radon mitigation system, replacing the sump lid but placing the suction point along the wall instead of the sump, since it discharges into septic. The radon fan was strategically routed near the dryer vent, away from the deck and kitchen window, ensuring safe airflow and compliance. We also installed a Breathe EZ air cleaner and ERV system, showing the family how to replace filters to maintain clean, healthy air. With careful planning around the home’s AC, exhausts, and deck, this radon abatement project provided both protection and comfort.

A radon mitigation system's extraction point typically goes through the concrete floor and beneath the property, but that wasn't an option for radon removal this time. Chuck's floors were poured with radiant heating elements so we couldn't drill through them. While there are a few options for an extraction point without drilling, we opted for a sump pit extraction point as a solution.

Radon Mitigation System Installed With Eagle Radon Fan

A three-point radon mitigation system has been successfully installed as designed to address elevated radon levels in the home. The system layout was completed to maximize sub-slab depressurization and improve radon reduction across multiple basement chambers. A return visit is scheduled to complete the exterior piping and mount the homeowner’s requested Eagle Extreme radon fan. The homeowner was very clear about wanting this specific high-performance fan for long-term reliability and stronger airflow. Final payment will be completed once the team returns to finish the exterior installation and fan mounting.

This homeowner wants to spend more time in his basement and wants to make sure he is protected from the harmful effect of radon. He is fully aware that the symptoms are not showing on the spot.  So, he decided to get his own radon mitigation system.
